NAXOS_EARTH SIMPLICITY | 2017

Residential

Creating a dialectic between the old and the new, preserving materiality while introducing minimalism.

This old, last century stone house, is situated in Koronos, a remote mountain village in Naxos island, in the Cyclades. The owners, whose origin is from the village, envisioned going back to their roots and introducing it to their children.

The house’s restoration, was based on the concept of infusing minimalism & retaining materiality while restoring traditional character.

All new elements were made with carefully selected natural materials, white metal for the staircase and furniture, raw concrete for the kitchen counter and sitting areas, white stucco for the wall surfaces.

Treated oak wood was used in doors, shelves and furniture, to warm up the space and connect it architecturally with its past traditional character, enhanced by the partially revealed and restored stone structure of the old house.
